First Lady Liza Marcos has spoken out on a video which caused a stir on social media, taken during the Vin d'Honneur held in celebration of the Philippine's 126th year of independence.
Dubbed the "viral wine glass video," it shows the first lady taking Senate President Francis Escudero's wineglass, drinking from it, and returning it to Escudero.
In an exclusive message to Anthony Taberna, Marcos told her side of the story.
The first lady came with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the ceremonial hall after having greeted 82 ambassadors and more international organization representatives for the occasion.
"'When Chiz saw me, he said, 'Wow--bilib din ako sa iyo. May energy ka pa after standing and smiling for over an hour. I'm sure you could use a drink,'" Liza Marcos revealed.
She said she had agreed, and "mischievously" took his glass. Upon taking a sip, she realized the wine was no longer cold, and said so. She gave the wineglass back, after which they "both had a good laugh".
The interaction took all of ten minutes.
Moreover, the first lady told Taberna she has known Escudero for a long time and has been "friends for like forever."
"I've known Chiz since my law school days. He studied in UP and I went to Ateneo. We've been friends for like forever," said the First Lady.
Liza Marcos rebutted opinions online, saying what the interaction had actually been like for both was a matter reserved for them.
"So whether 'I made him a waiter' and/or 'he responded like a gentleman' is between us."
